In Front of My Door – Annual Exhibition of the Professional Association of Visual Artists Hamburg

What is going on right outside my door? Not somewhere or sometime, but here and now. This year’s annual exhibition of BBK Hamburg showcases what artists from the city are observing in the media and their immediate surroundings and what provokes their thoughts.

Florian Reckert takes photos of landscapes into which he digitally integrates military aircraft or soldiers: what kind of an environment do we seek to live in? Christian M. Beier’s woodcuts depict demonstrations: what do we stand up against and for publicly? Lotte Hauss presents baseball bats adorned in gold lettering to smash problems with: is violence an acceptable solution?

In the exhibition, artists from the Professional Association reflect on current social developments and examine their historical, cultural and social contexts. The title at the same time alludes to the two sides of a door: when it is closed, it separates what is in front of it from what is behind it; when open, it encourages dialogue and a change of perspective.

A jury of experts has selected 27 members of the BBK Hamburg for this exhibition from a total of 93 applications.
