Sesamstraße
50 Years and Counting

7.5.23 – 7.1.24

To mark the 50th anniversary of Sesamstraße, the MK&G is showing a major special exhibition titled "Sesamstraße: 50 Years and Counting". Across an area of 700 square metres, visitors will be invited to immerse themselves in the entertaining world of Bert and  Elmo and Cookie Monster as they take a look behind the scenes of the successful TV show. Created in cooperation with the NDR broadcasting station, the exhibition focuses for the first time on the design and handcrafted production of the legendary show, examining how the puppets, sets, costumes, props and music are developed and introducing the creative minds and skilled hands behind the imaginative characters, animated films and scenery. Never before have so many original Sesamstraße puppets been on view in Germany, representing a total of 16 characters, among them the superstars Bert and Ernie, Elmo and Cookie Monster and also Bibo, Abby Cadabby and the long-lost characters Rumpel, Tiffy and Herr von Bödefeld.

The exhibition is supported by the Exhibition Fund of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and the Hubertus Wald Foundation and is being produced in cooperation with NDR. With kind support from Annegret and Claus-G. Budelmann and Edgar E. Nordmann (†).
