DRIFT
Moments of Connection

7.1.2022 – 8.5.2022

On the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the internationally well-known artists DRIFT are staging their most extensive presentation in Germany to date at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MK&G). From January 7 to May 8, 2022, DRIFT will transform the MK&G into a sensual experience space on 350 square meters with three spectacular kinetic sculptures. Luminous dandelion seeds, magnificent silk flowers that gracefully unfurl and retract, and a spatial installation that mimics the flight of animals allow visitors to experience the deep connection between humans and nature. Parallel to the exhibition, DRIFT was commissioned by the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, in close coordination with MK&G, to develop a performative artwork: “Breaking Waves“ will be premiered on April 28 and also be shown after nightfall on the following three evenings. The installation will illuminate the exterior of the concert hall in a new light, referencing its surroundings and its interior: music. Founded in 2007 by Lonneke Gordijn (1980) and Ralph Nauta (1978), DRIFT uses technology to make phenomena and hidden properties of nature visible in order to learn from them and restore our relationship with nature.

An exhibition in cooperation with Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.
