Angelika Oehms

Portrait of Angelika Oehms. She holds her hand up in front of her face, with head-puppets on her fingers.

A snapshot of a life: developed in collaboration with Bettina Sefkow, this project is dedicated to the work and life of the Hamburg-based artist Angelika Oehms. It brings together materials from the ARCHIV Hilka Nordhausen / Buch Handlung Welt, Oehms’ private collection, as well as photographs, documents, and memories from her personal and artistic circles.

The exhibition sheds light on a largely forgotten artistic position and its context within Hamburg’s art scene of the 1970s and 1980s. At its centre is Oehms’ slide projection Kostbare Sekunden from 1980. Now, 46 years after it was first presented, the work returns to the Kunstverein in Hamburg.

This exhibition is presented as part of chess club’s programme as Project Space-in-Residence, curated by Amanda Weimer.
