THIS IS THE MODERN WORLD. Breakthroughs in Art 1900–1960 is a reinterpretation of the modern art holdings, which, with over 3,000 paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings, ranks among the most significant in Germany. Through some 125 selected works – including well-known highlights and special new acquisitions – the exhibition illustrates the wealth of new ideas and approaches, as well as the break with existing traditions in the art of these six decades, which were marked by extraordinary upheavals in culture and society.
